We've
been doing a lot of work lately! Our team of teacher specialists contacted
the best publishers in order to read and review books that you can use
with your students. Because Animal Day is on April 29th, we decided to
start with some books involving animals.
We found a
couple of OUP's Dolphin Readers very appropriate for the occasion.
These
readers include both fiction and non-fiction to teach children about
the world around them.
This series is carefully
graded so your learners make good progress through the levels. Four
different themes - Grammar, Living Together, the World Around Us,
Science and Nature - make this series ideal for cross-cultural and
cross-curricular project work. There are integrated activities on
every double-page spread and a separate activity book for every title!
A great way to read and
learn! Pictures and photographs explain and support the story. At
lower levels, text in different colors makes it easier to follow the
dialogue. Activities develop reading, writing, and comprehension
skills. The Colour Picture Dictionary in every reader helps learners
understand new vocabulary.
Cambridge
Storybooks come in beginner to pre-intermediate levels and they
provide teachers with an audio cassette/cd. Ideal tittles are
My dog's party,
Who's stealing the fish?,
The tortoise and the hare
and The Incy Wincy Spider series among others.
Another
series that you might want to consider is Primary Readers
by mm Publications. These readers are aimed at young learners and
consist of 6 graded levels. They include simple activities and a picture
glossary on CD-CDROM in British and American English. For projects
including animals, The
wishing fish (level 4),
The fox and the Dog
(level 2) and
Mowgli
(level 4) could be a good choice.
Macmillan Portfolio Readers in beginner plus level,
Animals,
presents factual information in a modern magazine format. Each
title explores aspects of the intercultural world from the reader's
viewpoint. They come with an audio CD as well.
